If you missed our first “Gear Drive”
we'll be open again this
Saturday July 17th, noon – 3pm to receive donations of outdoor equipment
In order to respect COVID-19 public health guidelines, we’re planning an outdoor curb-side drop off in front of the building at 877A Boyd Avenue.
If you have gear to donate but can’t make those dates, please connect with us at the email below
With the goal of enabling more people to enjoy the benefits of being active outdoors, to promote equity and reduce barriers to access nature in the City and beyond, and in support of the sharing economy and reducing waste, we’re announcing the launch of the Ottawa Outdoor Gear Library.
As the COVID-19 restrictions ease, the OOGL is excited as we prepare to begin lending items by August 2021.
The purpose of the Library is to provide opportunities for individuals and groups to borrow equipment with as few barriers as possible. We operate on the principle that cost should not prevent opportunities to try new activities and to enjoy the physical and mental health benefits of recreation and connecting with nature in the outdoors.
The purpose of the Library is to provide opportunities for individuals and groups to borrow equipment with as few barriers as possible. We operate on the principle that cost should not prevent opportunities to try new activities and to enjoy the physical and mental health benefits of recreation and connecting with nature in the outdoors. This could be in your neighbourhood park in the City, along one of the paths or waterways in the Capital, or in the conservation areas, provincial and national parks nearby.
In particular, the Ottawa Outdoor Gear Library seeks to support people living with low incomes, women, youth, BIPoC communities, 2SLGBTQ+ people, and newcomers to access gear for outdoor activities.
As we build our library inventory, we’re reaching out for community support. If you have outdoor equipment, funds to help our operating costs, or ideas for where we might find this, we would welcome these contributions.
As a volunteer-driven initiative, all support is appreciated. Your support and contributions will enable us to meet our goals and create a gear library that is accessible to everyone. Your generous donation will help offset the expenses of this community initiative.
The Ottawa Outdoor Gear Library is a new initiative and we rely 100% on volunteers. We are passionate about health equity and spending time outdoors. If you are interested to join our team, please get in touch! The Ottawa Outdoor Gear Library is an initiative of the National Capital Region Equitable Recreation Network, a Federally-registered Not-For-Profit organization.
